SPORADIC form wise and still without a win, Orange Hawks are viewing Sunday’s Group 10 premier league local derby against the third-placed Orange CYMS as a huge opportunity to score their first victory of the year.

It’s just a matter of putting a complete performance on the field.

“I’ve said from the start, when these guys put it all together they’ll be a force to be reckoned with,” injured Hawks captain-coach Jason Gangaram said.

“They’ve impressed me with a facet of their game every week, it’s just never the same thing or more than one or two in the same game. The gist of what I’ve said every week is that they need to put it all together in one game.

“Hopefully it all comes together this weekend, there’d be no better way to get your first win than in a local derby”.

Even before they found out CYMS will be without six of their regular starters, Gangaram said his troops had taken their preparation to another level in the lead-up to Sunday’s game.

“They’re ready to go, they’re firing,” he said.

“Even before we knew a few CYMS guys were out, the boys had organised an extra training session on Saturday morning to keep working on things and coming together.

“I had nothing to do with it either, they organised it between themselves. I think that’s a pretty good sign of how keen they are for this game.

“Last week (against Oberon) our line speed wasn’t good enough so we’ll be focusing on that against CYMS.

“If we can get up quicker and give their playmakers less time with the ball it will benefit us.

“We controlled the ruck well last week but then we were on our heels in defence, waiting for them to come to us.

“We can’t do that against CYMS.”

Sunday’s local derby kicks off at 2.30pm at Wade Park.
