Friday night saw the resurrection of high pony tails, denim jackets and Brittany Spears in Wagga, as high school students took centre stage

Performing to an almost filled out theatre at the Civic Centre, Mater Dei Catholic College students stunned the crowd in theiropening night performance ofPopstars, the 90s Musical.

The musical follows the traditional high school tale of boys versus girls, which culminates in a 90s musicshowdown, withtwo rival bands going head to head in the battle to win an illustrious record deal.

More than 150 students participated in the show, including the lead cast, musicians,lighting and backstage hands.

Musical director Melanie Cramp said she initially chosethe large-scale production for its vibrancy.

“It’s such great fun to watch,” Ms Cramp said. “The students get so involved in the songs and the audience’s enjoyment ispalpable.”

Tickets are still available from the Civic Centre for shows on May26, 27 and 28 at 7.30pm and May 28 at 2pm.
